Job Summary:
The Senior Buyer / Regional Manager is a hands-on role, responsible for day-to-day buying and operational execution at store level. The role requires active involvement in purchasing, stock management, and customer engagement, while working within company systems, procedures, and commercial strategies to deliver strong availability, competitive pricing, and high service levels for key customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-On Buying & Stock Management
- Manage day-to-day buying activities in line with company range, pricing, and margin guidelines
- Negotiate and manage pricing, deals, and terms with approved suppliers and wholesalers
- Place orders, review deliveries, and resolve stock, pricing, or supplier issues promptly
- Maintain agreed stock levels to support availability, turnover, and waste control
- Review product performance and make range or volume adjustments based on sales data and customer demand
Customer Engagement (Key Focus)
- Maintain regular, direct contact with large and repeat customers on the shop floor
- Build strong relationships with key accounts to understand their needs, buying patterns, and growth opportunities
- Use customer feedback to influence buying volumes, pack sizes, product mix, and promotional activity
- Act as a link between customers, store teams, and buying/operations functions to ensure expectations are met
Store & Operational Execution
- Be actively involved in daily store and warehouse operations as required
- Support store teams with goods-in, stock rotation, merchandising, and issue resolution
- Ensure operational standards, food safety, and health & safety procedures are followed consistently
- Identify operational issues and take hands-on corrective action in line with company policies
Commercial & Performance Delivery (KPIs)
- Sales growth and margin performance against agreed targets
- Stock availability and service levels for key lines and core ranges
- Stock turnover, waste, and shrinkage within company thresholds
- Supplier performance, including pricing compliance and delivery accuracy
- Customer satisfaction and retention of key and repeat customers
- Execution of agreed promotions and range changes within required timelines
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a senior buying, operations, or commercial role within grocery, wholesale, or cash & carry retail
- Strong hands-on buying and negotiation skills within structured retail environments
- Experience working directly with key customers and high-volume accounts
- Solid understanding of stock control, warehouse operations, and retail compliance
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams and functions
